Artificial Intelligence admitting the possibilities of error
University of Cambridge event

Fri, 15 Aug 2025 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Organiser
CRASSH
Location
SG1, Alison Richard Building, 7 West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DP

Conceptual artist Kirsten Lavers’ drawings touch on many scientific and mathematical disciplines. These include emergence, morphogenesis, symmetry breaking, error propagation and automata. Her exhibition  ‘Admitting The Possibilities Of Error – Conceptual Drawings 2010 – 2025‘  at the Alison Richard Building runs until 29 August.

Peter Murray-Rust (Reader Emeritus in Molecular Informatics) has engaged with Kirsten to identify scientific principles. Recently they asked whether simple rules could generate similar drawings. Using AI-assisted (‘vibe’) coding, Peter and ChatGPT/CursorAI evolved a program following a set of simple rules modulated by randomness.

Kirsten and Peter will demonstrate their program ‘AtPoE’ and discuss its output in the context of her work. Booking is required.
